Talked with Jay Burnett at 7PM about cod. I wondered if the variation of Vg titer as measured by my antiserum could be a useful approach to studying food habits. If cod did not feed for periods during the day, perhaps Vg titer dipped to undetectable levels despite the fact that they were actively vitellogenic. Jay reminded me that Ed Tripple studied sperm production in cod using the St Andrews cod rearing facility. Such a facility might allow me to do the experiments necessary to establish the relation of Vg titer to daily feeding patterns. Baltic cod population. It is the most studied and published population of cod. Ed Tripple is now on sabbatical in Germany at U. Kiel with Jonna Tomkiewicz (jtomkiewicz@ifm.uni-kiel.de)who studies cod in the Baltic. There is a cooperative study of the cod among Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia. Jay could put me in touch with the people there and get me onto a survey ship that did the Baltic.
